French

Our Intent for French

We intend to provide a relevant, broad, vibrant French curriculum that will inspire our pupils using a wide variety of topics and themes. We strive to embed elements of vocabulary so that all pupils feel confident speaking French for a purpose, e.g. using greetings and colours to answer the register. We always teach French in a creative and varied way to engage pupils and embed learning e.g. use of songs, stories, video clips, games and visual aids. We encourage to persevere with their pronunciation in a learning atmosphere that is kind and collaborative. French is always taught in an inclusive way so that all pupils feel able to speak and participate in a resilient way. Children learn to appreciate French culture as empathetic learners.

Enrichment

Teachers incorporate workshops and trips to provide learning in a 'real life' context.

  • French café where children ran a café in French for parents.
  • French songs in assemblies.
  • Drama performances to parents.
  • French club available.
  • Create videos linked to French topics.
  • Sir John Lawes pupil’s lead a French workshop.

Curriculum Outline

Art units are taught in a two-year rolling cycle due to the mixed aged class structure.
