History

Our Intent:

Deliver the National Curriculum for History in a way that inspires children and in a way that builds upon learning such that the children become increasingly independent, self-directed learners who are motivated and curious as Historians.

History lessons should help to develop learners who can work effectively collaboratively (and so be tolerant and open-minded) and independently. The children will need to demonstrate empathy when considering material as well as inferring, deducing and reasoning. A combination of a high standard of knowledge and skills is highly desirable. Teaching creatively and promoting curiosity is encouraged. In history lessons, children will, where possible, learn to communicate their learning in interesting and creative ways.

Enrichment Opportunities:

Teachers incorporate workshops and trips to provide learning in a ‘real life’ context.

These include:

• World War II Day;
• Trip to Duxford;
• Trip to Verulamium Museum;
• Vikings Workshop;
• Trip to British Museum – Egyptians;
• Greek Workshop;
• Eric Morecambe Centre for Local History;
• Trip to Bethnal Green Toy Museum.
