A warm welcome to the St Nicholas Primary School PTA
As soon as your child joins St Nicholas Primary School, you automatically become a member of our Parent Teacher Association. Our PTA was founded in 1943 and is one of the longest-running PTAs in the country. We're a lively and dedicated group of volunteers.
Why does the school have a PTA?
Our main aim is to raise money for the school to enhance and improve the learning experience for all children, especially when Local Education Authority funding is limited. We raise around £15,000 annually, which has enabled:
- Two major playground refurbishments
- IT equipment, such as iPads, laptops and digital smartboards
- Graded reading books, additional science and maths materials
- Art supplies and musical instruments
- Educational activities such as author visits and dance workshops
It's so rewarding to see children enjoy new resources and equipment provided by the PTA. The Local Education Authority doesn’t fund IT equipment, so our fundraising ensures up-to-date educational materials throughout a child’s primary schooling.
As well as fundraising, we run activities to enhance the school’s community spirit, such as film and disco evenings and Lunar New Year celebrations (for the children); social evenings and our brilliant Summer Ball (for parents!) Our Christmas Fair is a highlight of the year with a spectacular grotto, irresistible raffle, 20 stalls and a café, all run by parent volunteers and attracting people from the wider Harpenden community to mark the start of the festive period.
Getting Involved
The PTA is run by a committee of volunteers, and we are grateful to all parents who support us with their time, energy and donations.
To help families stay on top of things, each class has a representative who liaises between class teaching staff, the parent/carer body and the PTA. They send a weekly message on WhatsApp outlining things to remember for the week ahead and help organise class events. So please get involved, say yes, give it a go, and you’ll see just how rewarding it is to support our fantastic school!
